• Brief overview of the role

    The work will involve building the substructure of buildings (groundworks), blockwork and brickwork walls. You will set out and lay bricks using mortar, shaping and trimming as required.

    Duties will include:

    • You will learn how to lay decorative bricks and block work for patios and driveways
    • You will be fully supported throughout your apprenticeship by a qualified member of staff who teach you new skills and knowledge to during your training period
    • The ideal candidate will be given a variety of duties that they will carry out throughout your apprenticeship
    • You will be learning new techniques and gain new skills to assist you in your role
    • A fully qualified member of their team will show you how to use all the specialised tools and equipment correctly and safely throughout your training
    • You will be observing work carried out by your experienced colleagues, and will then put into practice all that you have learnt, achieving a high level of workmanship on all the projects that you carry out
    • You will be shown how to align bricks and blocks using plumb lines and levelling tools, working to design plans
    • You will also be shown how to use mechanical cutting equipment to shape bricks and blocks to fit the correct angles
    • As you will be working on different sites you will be demolition old structures and ground work as required and replacing with new
    • Throughout your apprenticeship you will also be given general day tasks associated with your role to fulfil your day
    • You will be supervised by a fully qualified member of staff, and you must follow all Health and Safety processes and procedures in the work place at all times, as well as ensuring that all tools are clean and put away correctly
    • You will need to wear the appropriate personal protection equipment at all times when working on site

    • Good practical skills and be able to communicate effectively with others
    • Be aware of Health and Safety in the workplace and be prepared to listen, follow instructions and take guidance from experienced professionals
    • Must be prepared to work in all weather conditions

    • A good work ethic is essential

    Desired qualifications

    • 5 x  GCSE’s A*-C / 9-4 or equivalent
